Caring for Aging Parents can be Overwheming or Not!

The emotional demands of caring for our aging parents is often overwhelming. As our parents become elderly and less competent to care for themselves, the responsibility of assisting there needs becomes our responsibility. If we are not only children then we are then able to potentially "share"  this burden with our siblings. Coordinating this responsibility with our siblings can either lessen the caring burden or at worse dramaticly increases the burden of caring for our aging parents. If you never got along with your older sister or younger brother then establishing the rules and or roles of the various caring chores is imperitive. It is important to set the standard of care at a high level. In order to avoid conflicts between your siblings make early agreements about the rules you will follow. If you are not able to either establish these rules or if conflict erupts between your siblings think about using a neutral third party. This could be a doctor, social worker, clergy, or friend of your aging parents.

Dont wait until you have a "communication problem"  with you sibling,  take the first step now to start the dialog now about caring for your Aging Parents.

Good info, but we've found the difficulty isn't in 'coordinating' with siblings, but in reaching agreements between siblings.
